CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A Montgomery County Jail Deputy has been indicted by the August session of the Montgomery County Grand Jury after he was charged with hitting an inmate.
According to the indictment, former Deputy Mario Pearrie unlocked the jail cell of a male inmate and hit him. The nature of the alleged assault was not listed.
The incident occurred June 16, 2017.
Sandra Brandon, Public Information Officer for Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), said Pearrie was placed on administrative leave pending investigation of the incident. His employment was terminated when the investigation concluded on June 23.
Brandon said investigators with MCSO presented the case to the Grand Jury when they convened in August, which resulted in Pearrie’s arrest for official misconduct and assault.
Pearrie was taken into custody on September 16 and was released after posting bond.
“We take every incident that occurs in our facility very seriously. The fact that this incident involved an employee of this office has no bearing on our obligation to uphold the law,” Sheriff John Fuson said in a statement to ClarksvilleNow.com.
Online records list Pearrie’s next hearing for October 9.
A booking photo of Pearrie was not available at the time of this release.
