CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Clarksville native, APSU Student and AMA Pro Motocross racer Sam Redman finished in the top 25 at the historic Unadilla Track in New Berlin, NY at Round 10 of the 2017 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship.
Sam, riding a stock 1 Stop Motorsports/Gateway Cycles Kawasaki, qualified strong with a second-place finish in Group 2 of the premier 450cc class. Over 100 pro racers throughout the world try each round to qualify for the opportunity to race against the top factory sponsored teams.
“Sam’s best finishes did not come easy this weekend, he had many obstacles that were in his way. Not only did he have to go up against the 40 fastest riders in the world, he had to also deal with Mother Nature,” Sam’s father, Joey Redman, recalled about the past weekend.
“They had to race through very intense conditions. The track was so bad and muddy, that I couldn’t tell which rider was who, everybody was just completely covered in brown sticky mud.”
His father said that it was impressive that they could even maneuver around this track.
“It just looked challenging I couldn’t even imagine racing it, and Sam rose to the occasion and put out his best finishes of the year,” he said.
The rain did not let up as the final moto started making the track almost un-rideable. The weather started bringing heavy winds and then lightning and after 11 laps the AMA officials had no choice but to Red Flag the race for the riders’ safety.
“This weekend was an incredible experience for me. Being able to race one of the oldest and most historic tracks in the United States. Unadilla sure did live up to the hype that surrounds this event. The track, the fans, and the intensity that surrounded this event were all just unlike anything I have seen before. All of the vibrant energy that came with the event, translated over into my riding,” Sam commented.
Redman said, “I always knew that I belonged out there with the best racers in the world, and now I am establishing that fact. Now we just got to keep climbing and keep crushing every new goal I set, and finish out the 2017 season strong.”
Sam looks to finish out the season strong at the final round of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship at Round 12, which is at the prestigious Ironman Raceway in Crawfordsville, Indiana on August, 26th 2017.
