HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – UPDATE: As of Tuesday at 3 p.m. the site is clear and all lanes are open.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has restricted eastbound traffic to one lane on KY 1682/The Hopkinsville Bypass between the US 41 intersection and the Pennyrile Parkway Interchange at Hopkinsville.

A contract mowing crew discovered a sinkhole in the median when one of their tractors got a wheel stuck in it. On further investigation, KYTC engineers found the hole continued below the surface.

Highway personnel have started efforts to fill the hole and cap it with concrete. Work at the site will continue through this afternoon and may continue during the day on Wednesday.

Motorists traveling east on the north leg of the KY 1682 Bypass at the north edge of Hopkinsville should use appropriate caution where equipment, flaggers, and maintenance personnel are along the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow.

Duration of this work zone lane restriction is unknown.
