CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A Clarksville woman was taken into custody outside police headquarters after she reportedly threatened an officer with a knife.
According to a police report, 43-year-old Cynthia Beard was attempting to flag down officers in front of Clarksville Police Department headquarters July 16. Police said Beard was angry because officers would not help her get her husband released from jail after he was arrested.
Beard was asked to leave the premises several times and refused. She demanded to speak with a supervisor and a sergeant was called to the scene.
While waiting for the sergeant, the reporting officer said Beard threatened to “kill and stab” him with a knife she said was concealed ion her purse. Beard then pulled out a small pocket knife, approximately two inches long, and flipped it open while continuing with what the officer described as a “rant.”
She closed the knife but opened it a second time and stepped toward the officer, who told her to drop it as he pulled out his Taser. He said Beard closed the knife again and was taken into custody without injury as the sergeant arrived.
The officer said Beard was within 10 feet of him when she brought out the knife.
Beard was charged with aggravated assault. Her bond was set at $100,000.
