CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) It was the 3rd Annual Day of Play Sunday at the Wilma Rudolph Events Center in Clarksville as an estimated 1,600 people, most of them children, turned out to have some fun and also learn a little something while they were playing. Mid-Cumberland Child Care Resource and Referral hosted the event and Program Coordinator, Ellen McCollum, talked about the concept behind Day of Play.

“Day of Play is an opportunity for children to just to come out and play, but it’s also an opportunity for parents to learn what skills their children are gaining when they play. There’s value in play and actually play is children’s work,” said McCollum. There was a construction area for engineering and math, an art area for creativity, and a STEM area which featured science, technology, engineering and math along with many other areas of play and learning.

McCollum said all of the areas have a purpose and the purpose is for the children to come and enjoy themselves but to also help educate parents about the skills their children are learning and gaining.
