Nashville, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Austin Peay State University hosted its 33rd Annual Candlelight Ball Saturday, March 11 at the Hilton nashville Downtown. Around 400 people attended the premier community event for APSU which since it began has raised over $360,000 in scholarships for deserving students who needed academic financial support.
Each year since 2011 the Candlelight Ball has honored two individuals for their support of the university and the community. The Wendell H. Gilbert Award recognizes someone in the community who has contributed to APSU through their service. This year’s recipient was Don Jenkins, President and CEO of Jenkins & Wynne Ford, Honda and Lincoln.
The Spirit of Austin Peay Award was presented to Carolyn Yarbrough, who has been a supporter of APSU Basketball for over 40 years. In 2001 she was the first female president of the Governors Club and also the first woman inducted into APSU’s Red Coat Society. She also received the Outstanding Athletic Booster Award in 2011.
