CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Convergys, a call center plant located in Clarksville, has announced a permanent closure of one of its departments later this year.

The company sent a Warn Notice to the TN Department of Labor and Workforce Development to announce the closure.

Cal Wray, Executive Director of the Economic Development Council, said a notice of this type must be sent anytime a company plans to lay off a certain number of employees.

He said Convergys lost a contract, which means it will close a certain department. The facility itself will not close and Convergys has no plans to leave the city of Clarksville.

The notice said the closure is effective April 10, 2017 and will affect about 134 current employees.

The company said every attempt will be made to move qualified employees to open positions in other programs.

The employees at the facility are not represented by a collective bargaining agreement.

Convergys has several contracts that change seasonally and typically employs anywhere from 600 to 1,000 employees, according to Wray.

“It’s sad to see 134 people in our community lose their jobs,” Rep. Joe Pitts said about the announcement.

Affected workers can call the Dislocated Worker Unit at 615-741-1031.
