NASHVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation confirmed they’re investigating an officer-involved shooting Monday night in Ashland City.
Preliminary information indicates that shortly before 9 p.m. central time, Cheatham County deputies were dispatched to respond to a call that a woman had been nearly run off the road near the 1500 block of Sams Creek Road.
When officers arrived at the area, they saw a vehicle backing out of a driveway in the vicinity of where that call had been reported. Deputies initiated a traffic stop in the driveway to try to determine whether that vehicle was involved at all in the incident.
As the stop was being conducted, a male resident of the home, Charles Holland, 44, came out of the house with a long gun, and began walking toward the driveway where the stop had taken place. At some point during this encounter, deputies fired at him, striking him.
He was transported to Vanderbilt Hospital, where he is being treated. At last check, he was listed in stable condition.
No law enforcement officers were injured.
Brian Haas with the Nashville Fire Department confirmed to WKRN News 2 that Holland has been a firefighter with the department since 2002.
Holland’s father Jim told News 2 that deputies arrived as his son was helping a woman who was in his driveway. He said his son was acting as a Good Samaritan at the time, but Jim Holland did not wish to discuss the situation any further.
The sheriff’s department confirms that the officers involved are on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the TBI investigation.
