It was created in 2012, by the 101st Airborne Division Association’s Board of Governors to administer the philanthropic programs of the 101st Airborne Division Association. Among its many other Soldier support activities, The Screaming Eagle Foundation awards annual Scholarships to the descendants and heirs of the 101st Airborne Division Association’s members.
Applications will be accepted from Feb. 1 through March 31 for this year’s scholarships.
Who does the Screaming Eagle Surviving Children’s Scholarship Benefit?
The Screaming Eagle Surviving Children’s Scholarship Program provides scholarship grants to the surviving children of 101st Airborne and other eligible Fort Campbell Solders who have fallen, or been injured or seriously wounded since 9/11. The Screaming Eagle Foundation will be working closely with the Fort Campbell, KY units and agencies to inform eligible families about the scholarship program.
Recipients of this year’s scholarships will be notified on the Army’s Birthday, June 14, 2017. College-age children of fallen or wounded Fort Campbell soldiers who are selected for a scholarship receive a scholarship award towards their education in the Fall 2017 semester. Those children who are still a few years away from college, if awarded, will be named as the beneficiary of a 529 account to prepare for when the child is accepted and enrolled in a two or four year education program.
2016, the first year of the program, provided $17,500 in scholarship grants to seven applicants with each receiving $2,500 toward their education. The Screaming Eagle Foundation is hoping to continue to expand the new program to provide greater opportunities to military families who paid a terrible cost in defense of our country.
Those interested in knowing more or those with questions about eligibility requirements are encouraged to go to the Screaming Eagle Foundation’s website and review the application for details. You can also call the Screaming Eagle Foundation offices at Fort Campbell at (931)431-0199.
