FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Soldiers from 2nd Brigade Combat Team “STRIKE”, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), to include Col. Brett G. Sylvia, 2nd Brigade Combat Team commander, and Command Sgt. Jason L. Wilson, 2nd BCT command sergeant major are scheduled to return home from Iraq Wednesday.
Family, friends and fellow soldiers will gather at a ceremony to welcome home soldiers returning from their nine-month deployment to Iraq and Kuwait. Officially notified for deployment to Iraq on Jan. 7, 2016, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) postured personnel and equipment for rapid deployment to the Central Command theater of operations in less than 30 working days.
The Strike Brigade mission in Iraq was to advise, assist, and train and equip the Iraqi Security Forces to enable the defeat of Da’esh. Task Force Strike assumed its mission on May 17, 2016, during a transition of authority ceremony in Erbil and instantly began shaping the landscape of the fight against Da’esh by assuming the fires mission in northern Iraq.
The fires at the Kara Soar Base served two roles: force protection for Coalition, Iraqi and Kurdish Security Forces and support of ISF maneuver. Task Force Strike provided the largest capability of all-weather, precision, surface-to-surface fires during Operation Inherent Resolve – Iraq.
The ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday. The time is subject to change with short notice.
