CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Thanks to the generous donation from several local citizens, the canine dogs at the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office have received cooling vests to wear during hot weather training and operations.
Animal House Veterinary Clinic, Cato’s Exterminating, Jodi’s Cabinet Shop, Roughneck Motorcycle Club, the Nall family, the Berkebile family, the Gann family, and Smokey (via his human) donated enough money to purchase six cooling vests for K9 Mallie, Fuze, Merlin, Links, and Lobo.
“So far this year in the US seventeen law enforcement canine have died due to heat related injuries,” said K9 Sergeant Robert Oliver. “These vests will reduce the risk of injury to our canine as they train and work in the summer months.”
Cooling vests work by wicking away heat from the dog’s core. Each vest has a removable and rechargeable cooling insert on the underside of the chest. Each insert is designed to stay cool for up to three hours and “recharges” after only 20 minutes in ice and water.
The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all who donated. Your gift is lifesaving.
