CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.– The Distinguished Steppers Unlimited (DSU) will kick-off Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a reminder of the importance breast health and early breast cancer detection and treatment.

The Pink Empowerment tree trimming and reception will be 1-3 pm on Saturday, October 1 at the Burt-Cobb Recreation Center.

The highlight of this event has been to assemble and trim a tree with pink in recognition of breast cancer survivors and in memory of those who lost their fight with this disease. Its intent is to be a source of support, strength and encouragement for men and women who share a concern in the fight against breast cancer and all forms of cancer.

This year the group will extend its outreach by assembling a display at both the Kleeman Recreation Center and the Burt-Cobb Recreation Center.

Community members are encouraged to stop by these sites and add pink ornaments to the trees or assemble their own pink tree trees to promote breast cancer awareness. Trees can also be decorated to represent the various forms of cancer, i.e. light blue for prostate cancer, gray for brain cancer, black for melanoma or gold for childhood cancer.

The DSU hopes that their pink tree and others like it will remain throughout the holiday season as a visual reminder of the courageous individuals who continue the fight against cancer.
