CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A woman was arrested Sunday, Sept. 29 after she stole and crashed a Clarksville police patrol car.
According to a report from the Clarksville Police Department, an officer responded to a crash at Andy’s Pharmacy at 801 Second St. Saturday, Sept. 28 around 10:30 p.m. Helen Botwe, 28, refused to perform sobriety tests and was taken into custody for DUI. The officer placed Botwe in the patrol car, but left the partition window open on the cage that separates the front and back seats.
While the officer spoke to another man involved in the crash, Botwe managed to climb into the front seat of the patrol car, put it in gear and drove toward New Providence Blvd. Police began to chase Botwe, who eventually crashed into a utility pole at Fort Campbell Blvd and Park Ln.
After the crash, Botwe jumped out of the car and fled on foot. Warrants were secured for her arrest, and she was booked Sunday, Sept. 30 on charges of DUI, Implied Consent, Auto Theft, Reckless Endangerment, Evading Arrest, Escape, and Criminal Impersonation. Her bond was set at $58,000.
