NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — After it was closed for more than six months for renovations, the Belcourt Theater reopened Friday.

The nonprofit Belcourt is the only theater in Middle Tennessee featuring independent, documentary, world, repertory and classic cinema.

The theater spent nearly $5 million on upgrades, including an expanded lobby and handicap-accessible bathrooms.

It’s been more than 50 years since the theater was last renovated.

“I’s pretty great. Our patrons have put up with some slightly rundown facilities for many years now, and I think the beauty is that the program is so strong that they forgive us a lot,” said Executive Director Stephanie Silverman. “Now they don’t have to forgive us.”
