CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A local business owner, Michael Martin of Martin’s Roofing, recently woke up to a special visitor in his truck.

He walked to his truck and noticed something on his 35 ft. ladder.

“I thought my wife was trying to play a joke on me and put our owl decoy on my ladder,” Martin said. As I got a closer look I realized that it was real. I tried to shake the ladder, trying to make it fly away. I moved the ladder to the ground and put a stick under it and the owl did not move. I went to the nearest fire station and asked for help.”

The owl was taken to Fire Station 2/ EMS Medic 25 on Fire Station Rd. in Sango. Thick firefighter gloves were used to move the owl to a five-gallon bucket. Engineer Mitch Kelly and Engineer Chuck Morrison immediately called Montgomery County Animal Control.

Both EMS and Clarksville Fire Rescue crews cared for the owl until Montgomery County Animal Control arrived. They thought the bird seemed lethargic and dehydrated. The owl was given water through a straw and seemed to perk up and a dish of water was put in the bucket.

Animal Control arrived and advised them that it was a Western Screech Owl. The bird has been transported to Walden’s Puddle Animal Rescue.
