CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Registration is now open for the 2nd annual “Be More Like Wade” Scholarship 5K Run/Walk and Lone Oak Picnic on July 30.
The 5K will begin at Montgomery Central Schools. Registration will begin at 8 a.m., with the race to follow at 8:30 a.m.
The event is in memory of Wade, who died on March 3, 2015 from a work related accident. He was an active member of the Cunningham community. Wade graduated from Montgomery Central High School in 2002 and was named “Mr. Central”.
Proceeds from the 5K will be placed into a scholarship fund, with funds granted each year to graduating seniors at MCHS who demonstrates the traits that Wade did. Because of the success of #BeMoreLikeWade 5K Run/Walk/Crawl last year eight $1000 scholarships were awarded to seniors graduating from Montgomery Central High School this year. A committee of 5, made up of faculty and staff from MCHS and members of the Cunningham community reviewed scholarship applications. There were over 30 applicants.
The scholarship recipients this year are: Janelle Smith, Karoline Peters, Kirsten Meaker, Madison McMahan, Peyton Bone, Stephanie Carson, Leslie Bradley and Kayla Coleman. Scholarships are fully funded by the 5K sponsors and proceeds from the 5K.
Tickets can be purchased online through TicketLeap.com. Those who register by July 4 will receive a free t-shirt.
Donations can be made at any Cumberland Bank and Trust under the account name “Be More Like Wade.” Businesses who donate $100+ will be recognized on the shirts. Those donations need to be received by July 4th to guarantee they make the shirt cut off.
