SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. (WKRN) – A registered sex offender was arrested Tuesday after authorities say they learned he was officiating high schools’ softball games.

WKRN News 2 reports that Herman Brown was charged with one count of violation of the sex offender registry.

According to a press release, detectives with the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office received a tip from the public he was officiating games in Robertson and surrounding counties.

As a registered sex offender, Brown is prohibited from entering school property as well as obtaining employment within 1,000 feet of a school.

An investigation revealed Brown had allegedly been umpiring games at schools as an official with the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA).

The sheriff’s office says the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending as other violations are verified.

Investigators are reportedly speaking with neighboring jurisdictions regarding allegations Brown also officiated games outside of Robertson County.

Brown was taken into custody by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday and turned over to Robertson County where he remains in jail.
