MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A vehicle pursuit that began in Stewart County eventually led deputies into the woods in Montgomery County to search for the suspects.
According to an incident report, the Stewart County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) Saturday, April 9 after two suspects crossed the county line during a vehicle pursuit.
MCSO deputies began pursuing the black Ford Focus in the Dover Rd. area. The driver of the suspects’ vehicle attempted to turn onto N. Liberty Church Rd. and lost control of the vehicle, causing it to leave the roadway and hit a curb.
The suspects then exited the vehicle and fled into a wooded area on foot.
Deputies were able to catch up to the suspects shortly afterward.
One suspect, Antonio Henson, was placed in a patrol car, while the other, James Merriweather, was seated on a tree stump facing the road. The report says at that time a Chevy Malibu driven by a woman went past, and the woman made an “I love you” sign out the window, directed at Merriweather.
Deputies had seen the woman drive by twice and believed she was trying to pick up the suspects.
A deputy made contact with the woman, identified as Amanda Moore, and asked why she was circling the area. Moore told deputies that Merriweather is the father of her child. She said he called her and explained that he was attempting to flee from police on Dover Rd.
When Moore went to her car to retrieve her identification, the deputy smelled a strong odor of marijuana, but Moore denied having any and said several people had recently used her car. She also admitted to not having a license.
A search of her vehicle revealed a half-smoked marijuana cigar, a scale, and a small bag of marijuana. Moore was cited and allowed to leave the scene.
Henson was charged with evading arrest and booked into the Montgomery County Jail.
Merriweather, the driver of the vehicle in the pursuit, was taken into custody by the Stewart County Sheriff’s Office. He was charged with reckless endangerment, speeding, and evading arrest.
