*Editor’s Note: This review was originally posted September 9, 2013. Wicked Good Sandwiches has made the move to a new home in Clarksville.

Formerly on College Street, they can now be found at 605 Cumberland Drive. The restaurant opened their doors at the new location on March 3.

The new spot has a lot more room and owner Jason Yates said they are looking forward to expanding with a few new menu items and they are wanting to do a lot more things with music at night.

“We didn’t want too much change and wanted to keep everything pretty much to what we were doing over on College Street. Everything that everybody already loved about Wicked Good Sandwiches you’re still going to find here, just a little more space,” Yates said.

Wicked Good Sandwiches offers a big selection of flavor combinations that you won’t find at a chain. From The Green Monstah to the Italian Grinder to the Morning Glory, there are plenty of cleverly named sandwiches to try.

Looking to try as many as possible, I enlisted the help of a couple of friends, and the people sitting around us to get a good sampling of the menu. Upon recommendation of the owner, we tried the Mozz Rolls—mozzarella sticks and pepperoni wrapped in egg roll wrappers and deep fried, served with a tomato dipping sauce. We appreciated this clever twist on fried mozzarella sticks.

While waiting for our sandwiches, I asked the people near us about their lunches. New Guy in the booth behind us ordered the Wicked Good Chicken- a fried chicken breast with lettuce, tomato, pickle and mayo. He removed the lettuce and tomato, and said it was an okay sandwich… but just a chicken sandwich. The Friendly Girl in the other booth ordered The Green Monstah- two bratwursts, Provolone, pepperoncinis and mustard– and said it was amazing. She added that she ate there regularly and everything was “super good.”

With this introduction, we were curious as to our sandwiches. The menu gives the option of ordering a regular sandwich or a mini, so I opted for two minis, thinking I would get to have a better sampling of flavors that way. I should have questioned the quizzical look of the owner when I decided on two sandwiches, but it seemed like a good idea… until he brought out the order. A mini is a perfect sized sandwich for a light lunch… making two minis really too much, and the regular sandwich a very large lunch!

Before me were the Turkey Mushroom Melt and the Italian Grinder. With the promise of thick slices of turkey breast and grilled mushrooms, it sounded delightful… until the grilled mushrooms came out as canned mushrooms. That was a wicked disappointment. The canned mushrooms also showed up on my friend’s Mushroom Swiss burger, as well as The Queen City Cheesesteak. Delightedly, the Italian Grinder with ham, pepperoni, capicola and provolone was wickedly delicious! I savored each bite, and was disappointed when it was gone.

Despite the mixed reviews on the sandwiches, Wicked Good Sandwiches offers enough fun sandwich options, lots of good deals, plus live music on Saturdays that it will be worth my time to visit them again… Mmmm, looking forward to another Italian Grinder!
