CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A local 12-year-old girl who has fought serious illnesses throughout her life passed away early Wednesday morning.
Hailey Willet had been diagnosed with stage 4 liver disease approximately four months ago. On top of that, she was also dealing with a brain tumor and a host of other medical problems.
Her mother, Aysia, announced Wednesday that Hailey had taken an unexpected turn and did not survive.
Because the family was facing mounting medical bills, a benefit concert that raised nearly $1,600 was held last Saturday at the Warehouse in conjunction with z97.5 FM.
Hailey was so moved by the efforts of the community to help her that she had planned to pay the efforts forward by collecting change to donate to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, as well as toiletry items for local homeless shelters. Unfortunately she never got the chance to make her project a reality.
Aysia now hopes to raise funds to offset the cost of Hailey’s funeral, which she would like to hold in Vermont where the rest of her family resides.
“Hailey was a blessing and everyone who met her, she would steal your heart,” Aysia said in a post. “She’s not in pain anymore, no more suffering. I want to bury her right and let her be at peace at home.”
