CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – With the current threat of active shooter incidents in schools, movie theaters, and other businesses, the Clarksville Police Department (CPD) conducted an active shooter training exercise for the patrol officers of CPD.
The training took place Oct. 20 from 7-9 a.m. at Carmike Governor’s Square 10 at Governor’s Square Mall. The training is meant to reinforce response tactics in active shooter scenarios.
Active Shooter Incidents (years 2000 to 2010)— the number of incidents started at a relatively low level in the 2000s and then ramped up in 2009 and 2010. From 2000 to 2010, there were 84 Active Shooter Incidents. There were 21 Active Shooter Incidents in 2010 alone.
In the Aurora, Colorado shooting at the Century 16 movie theater on July 20, 2012, 12 people were killed, and 70 others were injured. These are staggering numbers. The Clarksville Police Department conducts active shooter training scenarios annually to keep officers alert and ready to react if an active shooter attempts to intrude on our own Clarksville community.
“This is just another example of community involvement in the procedures we use to enhance our response to these types of incidents,” Chief Al Ansley said.
