CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Tennessee Department of Safety issued a statement to clarify a tweet about possible child predators dressed as clowns over the weekend.

The department initially tweeted the following:

A later statement on Facebook said the photo in the original tweet showing two clowns in the woods was not taken in Tennessee:

“The photo of the ‘clowns’ was not a photo taken in Tennessee. This was a photo circulated throughout social media. While we want to provide awareness about this issue, the photo is not local.
We continue to monitor this situation as it has been reported in Tennessee.”

WKRN reported last week on an investigation by The Coffee County Sheriff’s Department following a report of a juvenile being attacked by a clown in Summitville.

A suspect in a clown mask reportedly attacked a teen with a knife.
