NASHVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Students in Nashville, Clarksville, and other parts of Middle TN will participate in March for Our Lives rallies in response to the recent school shooting in Parkland, Florida.
March For Our Lives Nashville is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 24 at at downtown Nashville’s Public Square Park and conclude with a rally around 12:30 p.m. at the park. The march route loop is nearly 1.5 miles in distance.
March for Our Lives Clarksville will be held on the same day from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at McGregor Park on Riverside Dr.
It will parallel the march students are hosting on Saturday, March 24 in Washington, D.C. to draw attention to gun violence in schools.
Efforts for Nashville’s sister march were prompted by Abby Brafman, a freshman at Vanderbilt University and a 2017 graduate of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. An idea quickly turned into a youth-led civic movement when a network of 70 fellow students asked how they could be involved and the larger Nashville community responded.
Brafman, along with march organizers Sabina Smith and Puja Jagasia, also met with The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee to establish the March For Our Lives Nashville Fund, allowing for gifts made to support the event tax-deductible.
March organizers are calling for support from individuals, businesses, and foundations. Funds are needed to secure the necessary logistics so the 5,000 or more participants anticipated to attend on March 24 can feel both safe and inspired.
