CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Clarksville officials, clergy members, and residents gathered Friday at noon at Clarksville Police Headquarters for a prayer vigil in response to recent shootings involving police.

Montgomery County Commissioner Tommy Vallejos announced the vigil on Facebook earlier in the day.

Approximately 35 people came together to hear prayers for those affected by the Dallas shootings and law enforcement officers across the nation.

“It’s about people coming together and pulling together, in unity,” City Council member David Allen said.

Vallejos quoted Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and prayed fervently for peace and unity through faith.

“We understand the stress and the pressure. We pray for the families who have lost a loved one in law enforcement there in Dallas, TX while doing their jobs,” he said. “I pray for my son who is in uniform today. I pray for those men and women putting on that uniform and not knowing if they’re going to go home.”
