CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Clarksville Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal hit and run on Tylertown Road Saturday, Dec. 14.
David Elliott, 26, is charged with vehicular homicide, DUI (2nd offense), failure to notify police of an accident, and driving on a revoked license in the death of Austin McReynolds, 21.
McReynolds had previously been at O’Connors Irish Pub and Grill at 1198 Tylertown Road and was walking down the road around 2:30 a.m. when he was struck by a vehicle, whose driver fled the scene without providing assistance to McReynolds or calling 911.
According to Officer Natalie Hall with the Clarksville Police Department (CPD), a citizen walking to work discovered McReynolds’ body around 5:11 a.m. on Tylertown Road near Roscommon Way.
About seven hours later, police officers searched the area and found a suspicious 2008 Ford Expedition at 844 Cindy Jo Ct. with fresh front end damage consistent with a collision with a pedestrian. Elliott was identified as the owner of the vehicle. He told police he had been drinking at O’Connor’s Irish Pub before driving on Tylertown Road, where he said he hit a deer.
Both the victim and suspect are in the military. Elliot is a Captain and McReynolds is a Private First Class, according to Clarksville police.
Elliott is being held without bond until seeing a Montgomery County judge on Monday morning. This is an ongoing investigation. There is no further information at this time.
