When the news broke that vandals had struck at Stokes Field for a fourth time in a month, two elected officials demonstrated what it means to lead.
State Representative Joe Pitts and Clarksville City Councilwoman Deanna McLaughlin spearheaded a fundraising campaign to fix the damage.
The incidents were devastating for the kids who play and parents who volunteer at the park. It was also personal for Pitts and McLaughlin. He played there as a boy and she represents that ward on the council.

To see the two act so quickly to reach across party lines to find a solution was inspiring.
I can’t help but wonder how our quality of life would improve if all elected officials pledged to lead in this manner.
When community members (elected or not) focus on common ground instead of their differences, everybody wins.
Hats off to State Representative Joe Pitts and Councilwoman Deanna McLaughlin.
Well done!
