CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Suspected murderer Kirby Gene Wallace, 53, is still on the run Tuesday after another victim was found shot to death in the search area Monday morning.

School Bus Routes cancelled Tuesday, Oct. 2: School Buses 784 and 1724, serving Woodlawn Elementary, New Providence Middle and Northwest High will not be running their routes Tuesday because they are in the search area. Woodlawn Elementary and Liberty Elementary remain on lockout status until otherwise notified. Police are positioned at the two elementary schools. Bus routes north of the search area are being accompanied by law enforcement.

The following intersections in Montgomery and Stewart counties have been closed:

Cumberland City Rd at Lylewood Rd, Cumberland City Rd at Popular Springs Rd, Cumberland City Rd at Seven Mile Ridge Rd, Cumberland City at Glenn Holliday Rd, Cumberland City and Haynes Ridge Rd, Wildcat Creek Rd at Hwy 46, and Lylewood Rd and Reed Road.

Citizens who live in this area will not be permitted to enter, and those who are leaving the area will be stopped at checkpoints and searched. Sheriff John Fuson said these inconveniences are for the public’s safety.

If you live in the area and would like an escort to return home please contact law enforcement located at the intersection of Lylewood Road and Reed Road.

Authorities believe Wallace is on foot and officials do not want him to harm anyone else or hijack any vehicles.

No one will be allowed past these intersections. Residents in the search area are asked to stay indoors, lock all doors and windows, and report any suspicious activity.

If you see something suspicious, DO NOT INVESTIGATE. Call 911 immediately and law enforcement will be dispatched to the area to investigate.

“Public safety is our number one mission,” Sheriff John Fuson said during a press conference Monday afternoon. “I just want to ensure the community we are out here with ample resources right now to handle what we need to handle. We don’t want anyone to put themselves in any more danger than what they may be in with him in the area currently.”

According to Montgomery County spokesperson Sandra Brandon, a caller to 911 Monday around 9:35 a.m. said a man was holding a pistol in a yard on Welker Road in Montgomery County.

The juvenile caller heard shots fired and authorities found a man shot dead in the yard. The victim has not been identified.

It is unclear at this time whether the shooter was Wallace, but authorities have reason to believe it was him.

The caller told 911 the shooter was wearing camouflage shorts and a shirt at the time. He then fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle, a silver Ford F-150, but later crashed in the area of Cumberland City Rd. and Frankie Rd. Authorities believe he fled the area on foot.

Gov. Haslam has increased the reward amount for info leading to Wallace’s arrest to $5,000.

Officials in Stewart and Montgomery counties have been searching for Kirby Gene Wallace for three days.

He is suspected of killing 63-year-old Brenda Smith of Indian Mound last weekend after she returned home from church with her husband interrupting a burglary in progress.

Wallace is accused of attacking and tying up the victims, then setting fire to their house.

He is also wanted by Montgomery County authorities in connection to a home invasion Thursday on River Rd. In that incident an elderly woman was stopped in her car and forced her into her home at knife point.

The search was focused on Honey Fork and Seven Mile Ridge Rd. in Indian Mound Saturday after he crashed a car near the Montgomery/Stewart County line during a pursuit. Wallace was later spotted in the search area wearing blue jeans with a dark blue or gray jacket.

Residents were told to keep doors and windows locked, secure vehicles and report any suspicious activity. On Sunday, Stewart County authorities asked residents to check their land, outbuildings, and vehicles for anything suspicious.

There is a $5,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.
