CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Clarksville Fire Department responded to a fire at 100 Duncan Street, Apt. A, shortly after 12:29 a.m. on the morning of June 25.

Fire Marshal Ray Williams said that when firefighters arrived on the scene, there was visible smoke coming from the home, and “a flash of fire burst out of a bedroom window.”

Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control, though one person had already been badly burned.

The man, 36, had been burned on over 95 percent of his body and was LifeFlighted to Vanderbilt Medical Center, where is in extremely critical condition in the burn unit. No other injuries were reported.

According to Williams, “the house reeked of gasoline” and a gas can was discovered inside the residence. It is believed that gasoline was a contributing factor in the fire, though no official cause has been released at this time.

The Clarksville Police Department and Clarksville Fire Department are investigating the incident.

The bedroom where the fire started sustained the most damage, with minor smoke damage reported in the kitchen and living room. The ceiling collapsed in the bedroom, but the fire did not reach the roof. The neighboring apartment had minor smoke damage and residents were allowed to return once it was cleared of smoke.
