CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A Clarksville man arrested this week for criminal homicide is accused of drowning his girlfriend in a bathtub.

According to an arrest warrant, a citizen flagged down police on April 26 around 6 p.m. The citizen said a woman had possibly been drowned in a bathtub at a home on Harrier Ct.

The deceased woman was found in the bathtub by Clarksville police. She was identified as 38-year-old Capitolla Cross.

Cross lived at the home with her boyfriend, 32-year-old Demetris Merriweather. He was later identified as the suspect and was taken into custody Wednesday.

Merriweather is charged with criminal homicide.

He was previously arrested March 19 for allegedly strangling Cross during a domestic dispute.
