CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A former Montgomery County attorney has received a public censure from the Board of Professional Responsibility of the Tennessee Supreme Court.

Carrie Gasaway, who was disbarred in Oct. 2015, has been ordered to pay restitution of $250 to one client and $3,500 to other within 90 days.

The Board of Professional Responsibility says Gasaway accepted a nonrefundable retainer from the first client with $250 designated to be held in trust. At the conclusion of the representation, Gasaway provided no explanation for her use of the funds held in trust and did not refund the $250.

In the second matter, Gasaway accepted a $3,500 fee from a client and did no work, and she failed to respond to requests for information from the client. She also failed to respond to these disciplinary complaints.

The Board said Gasaway violated multiple rules of conduct and caused potential harm to her clients.

Gasaway was disbarred along with Fletcher Long after being convicted of extortion in Montgomery County.

Following her conviction, she was arrested and charged with three counts of theft related to former clients.
