There is a new place to experience a taste of healthier food here in Clarksville. Located at the intersection of Tiny Town and Fort Campbell Blvd, Don’t Have a Cow! is a café and takeaway that offers only plant based, freshly made foods.
Light and clean, the fresh green color of the tiny café sets the tone. Cow accents and barn boards add to the feel. The bright green menu announces:
“On our menu you may see items such as ‘cheese, butter, sausage, burger, chicken, lobster,’ etc. We use delicious vegan substitutes for these items. We do not use any animal products or by-products in our food. No dairy (including milk, cheese, whey, or casein), meat, eggs, or honey. If it comes from an animal, we do not use it!”

My friend and I enjoyed looking over the different offerings. There is a house soup–Lentil & Veggie ($7.50), salads– BBQ Chickpea ($8) and Mandarin Almond ($6.50), wraps—Asian lettuce ($7.50), veggie ($7.50), and Cranberry Walnut Chickpea ($6.99), and a variety of sandwiches, including the Sloppy Lenny ($8.50), Chick’n Piccata ($7.99), and Field Roast Burger ($9.50). There are also an assortment of fresh sides available ($3, or $2 if subbed for the chips that come with each sandwich or wrap.)
Based on the recommendation of our server, I went with the Lobster Roll ($9.50) with a side of Forbidden Rice, Kale, & Roasted Beet Salad, while my friend went with the Meatball and Marinara Sub ($8.00) along with the upgraded side of Spicy Cashew Cheese dip with organic corn tortilla chips.

Everything is freshly made to order, and yet the food arrived fairly quickly. Presented on brightly colored plates, the freshness of the food stood out on the plate beautifully. Tasting the Spicy Cashew cheese dip, my friend and I agreed that while it wasn’t quite the texture of a true cheese dip, it did have a fairly similar flavor. Her Meatball Marinara sub had a rich tomato sauce and a pleasant meat-like texture to the white bean and mushroom meatballs.
My Forbidden Rice, Kale, and Roasted Beet salad had a mild flavor, and my initial thought was that it could use a little salt… but then I took another bite, and realized that without salt, I could better appreciate the mildness of the fresh kale, roasted beets and nutty rice, along with the crunchy pecans in the subtle garlic dressing.
The Lobster Roll was a warm sandwich with hearts of Palm, red peppers, and lots of celery with a creamy dressing. The hearts of Palm gave it a tangy flavor that I wouldn’t associate with lobster, but it was a good sandwich.
Vegan and vegetarian eating is not for everyone, but those who do make a practice of eating only plant based foods will appreciate the selection at Don’t Have a Cow! For those who have never tried such food, this is a great introduction to a vegan menu, and one worth trying out.
