CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Clarksvillenow.com caught up with local CrossFit competitor Dr. Dave Hippensteel while he was training at Screaming Eagle CrossFit in Clarksville for the 2017 Reebok CrossFit Games.
Hippensteel recently finished winning his qualifying rounds and is now getting ready for the CrossFit Games coming up in Madison, Wisconsin the first week of August. Hippensteel is ranked number one in the world for his age group 60-64.
Only 20 are chosen to compete in the championship competition for his age group and last year he took first place in the games. He competed in six events, winning first place in three of those and finished in the top five of the other three.
Hippensteel calls the games the Olympics of CrossFit and in 2016 he made the top 10 on ESPN2 sports and was reported in an article in GQ Magazine. A local dentist, Dr. Hippensteel has a dental practice in both Clarksville and Dickson, Tennessee.
Hippensteel says there is a huge need for fitness in society today with heart disease sill the number one killer and that with proper exercise it is largely preventable. He hopes the publicity surrounding his participation in the CrossFit Games will help inspire people and show them fitness is possible at any age.
He talked about one of the many benefits of CrossFit. “One of the things CrossFit is doing, with the physiology and the science behind the exercise we do, it’s almost redefining how we age. Basically, the better shape you’re in, the slower you age,” said Hippensteel.
