Coach Marshall H. Patterson, age 79, of Clarksville, died Sunday, January 19, 2014, at Gateway Medical Center. He was born in Lewisburg, TN, to the late Marshall Gray Patterson and Grace Holman Patterson Liggett. Marshall was also preceded in death by grandson, Christopher Patterson.

Coach Patterson graduated from Tennessee Polytechnical Institute, with a BS, in 1957 and attained a Masters in Education from George Peabody College for Teachers, in 1959.

He served in the US Army, at Fort Gordon, in Augusta, GA, from 1957-1959. He was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant, achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant, and, after leaving active duty, obtained the rank of Captain, in the Army Reserves.

Marshall began his coaching career at Fort Campbell Middle School in 1961, and then started the football program at Fort Campbell High School in 1962. There Marshall coached football, wrestling, and served as Athletic Director. He retired from Fort Campbell High School in 1995, and coached football for six more years, at Northwest High School.

He was a member of New Providence United Methodist Church, loved fishing with his son, antiquing with his wife, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, January 24 at the Chapel of Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home, with Rev. Skip Armistead and Rev. B.J. Brack officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday, January 23, and from 2 p.m. until the hour of service Friday at the funeral home.

Marshall is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rebecca Roach Patterson; one son, Stephen (Shelia) Patterson, of Thomaston, GA; two daughters, Jeanann (Randy) Pardue, of Knoxville, TN, Marsha (John) Anderson, of Nashville, TN; one sister, Aldene Williams, of Mt. Pleasant, TN; seven grandchildren, Taylor Patterson, Benjamin Pardue, Philip Pardue, Tessa Patterson, Mary Marshall Anderson, Stephen Pardue, and Jack Anderson; and many nieces and nephews.
