CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – As the total solar eclipse on Aug. 21 draws near, officials expect hundreds of thousands of people to flock to Middle Tennessee for the highly-anticipated event.

Solar Eclipse Events in and around Clarksville

Clarksville has been named one of the best places in the world to view the phenomenon, with more than two minutes of total darkness expected for cities within the path of totality. Most area hotels are booked on this day and any remaining rooms may carry a hefty price tag.

Local residents have begun listing their homes on Airbnb in the hopes of making some money while providing tourists with a comfortable place to stay. The website allows homeowners all over the world to make their homes available for rent for a predetermined length of time.

A search on the website shows at least 50 available properties ranging from $200 to $4,000. The average price is currently around $1,000. While these numbers may seem high, the prices are mostly for multiple nights in homes that sleep several people.

Residents of surrounding rural areas are getting in on the deal as well. Nathan Clark, who lives on a farm in Adams, TN with his wife Marcia, has listed his property at 2300 Gunn Rd.

Clark said his home sits on a large piece of private property at the top of a steep hill, which makes it a prime viewing location and unique choice.

“With all the hype, we just decided to take the opportunity to see if anybody was interested,” Clark said. “It’s just me and my wife, so it’s easy for us to move out if we need to.”

The total solar eclipse is less than one month away, so anyone looking for a place to rent, be it one room or an entire farm, will need to make a decision soon.
