CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Director for Human Resources for the city of Clarksville was arrested Saturday, Dec. 7 for making a false report.

According to a report from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), the suspect, William Wyatt, told a sheriff’s deputy his truck slid on ice and landed in a ditch on Mobley Road. Wyatt said he was given a ride home “from some guy in a red truck” and when he went back to the address, his truck was gone, and he reported it stolen.

While speaking with Wyatt, the deputy detected alcohol on his breath, but Wyatt said the smell was that of his tobacco dip.

Wyatt’s vehicle was found by another deputy at a home on McAdoo Creek Rd. The truck was stuck at a right angle across a drainage ditch in the front yard of the residence. Wyatt told the deputy there was a magnum revolver in the center console, which the deputy found. The truck’s ignition showed no signs of tampering.

Wyatt was read his rights and said no one had witnessed the incident. When the deputy spoke with the residents of the home, the witnesses told him they ran outside to investigate when they heard tires screeching. They found a man who identified himself as ‘Will’ trying to drive his truck out of the ditch. One witness said the man sounded intoxicated, and another said he did not see any ice on the road. The witnesses drove Wyatt to a friend’s home on Highway 12.

Both witnesses positively identified Wyatt as the man they had seen in the ditch.

Wyatt was booked into the Montgomery County Jail with a $1,000 bond.
