CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A 12-year-old Clarksville boy and his mother were injured during storms that hit the Middle Tennessee area late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.

Lt. Steve Warren with the Clarksville Police Department said the injuries were minor.

A tree struck the mobile home on Riley Rd. and appeared to nearly split it in half. Several people were trapped inside but were rescued by first responders. The Red Cross is assisting the family.

Falling trees also reportedly damaged a home on Old Russellville Pike and a garage on Dalewood Drive. There was one report of damage to a preschool on Old Russellville Pike.

The Montgomery County Emergency Operations Center opened around 5:30 a.m. and received 42 calls reporting storm damage until the center closed at 10 a.m.

Schools were delayed two hours.

Twenty-six callers reported trees or power lines down at various locations around the city. Nine streets and roadways were reported blocked or partially blocked by fallen trees or utility poles. By 10:30 a.m. all of the reported city and county road blockages had been cleared.

The line of storms also caused damage elsewhere. According to the Associated Press, forecasters say the spring-like storm system that killed at least three people in the Midwest may have spawned a tornado near a mall south of Nashville.

National Weather Service meteorologist Sam Herron said Wednesday that there have been numerous reports of scattered damage across the central part of the state.

He says there were reports of a possible tornado near the Cool Springs mall south of Nashville. The Nashville Emergency Operations Center tweeted that damage to power lines and trees indicates another possible tornado touched down in the city.
