CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A CDE Lightband customer contacted the utility this morning to report that he may have been the target of a scam artist. The customer received a telephone call last night from an automated system claiming to represent CDE Lightband.
According to the report, the automated system informed the customer that his electric bill was past due and he needed to make a payment over the phone using a credit card so his electricity would not be disconnected. The customer made a payment and called CDE Lightband after the fact. According to the customer, the transaction appeared to have processed, but it was not associated with CDE Lightband’s payment system.
CDE Lightband currently does not make phone calls to customers regarding overdue accounts or to solicit payment. A safe way to avoid this scam is to call CDE Lightband at (931) 648-8151 to determine account status. Customers may also get account information on the CDE Lightband Web site at www.clarksvillede.com.
