CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – CDE Lightband has been receiving calls from customers at locally owned restaurants and convenience stores who reported they may have been a target of a scam.
According to the report, the caller identifies themselves as a CDE Lightband employee and tells the customer their electric bill is past due and they need to make a payment over the phone using a credit card so their electricity would not be disconnected.
CDE Lightband currently does not make phone calls to customers regarding overdue accounts or to solicit payment. A safe way to avoid this scam is to call CDE Lightband at 931-648-8151 to determine account status. Customers may also access account information on the CDE Lightband Web site at www.clarksvillede.com.
CDE Lightband has contacted the Clarksville Police Department and they are investigating the case.
Final Note from Clarksville Police Department: There are other scams similar to this taking place. If the company is legitimate, it will allow customers to get off the phone to call that company back to make sure the phone request was legitimate.
