CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Volunteers in Clarksville-Montgomery County are well underway with their plans for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
This year’s fundraising event is set for Saturday, May 19.
Volunteer Melissa Hogan said the Relay for Life is the cancer society’s signature fundraising event and this year it will be held from noon to 10 p.m. at Kenwood High School.
“Relay is actually a walk and anyone can participate. Admission is free, everyone comes together to celebrate for a night of fun which celebrates cancer survivorship, memorializes loved ones that we’ve lost to cancer and helps fight back against the disease,” volunteer Kara Zimmer said.
Zimmer said some of the activities taking place at the event will be a special tent for cancer survivors, live music from High Society, inflatables, a yoga area, face painting, a display from the Montgomery County Antique Tractor and Engine Club and more.
Relay for Life is a family friendly event with a Disney theme this year of “Dream It, Hope It, Cure It” and all things Disney are welcome. The event will open with a cancer survivors victory lap and later in the evening there’s a luminaria ceremony to remember and recognize everyone affected by cancer.
One of the best ways to be a part of Relay for Life is to get a team together. Churches, businesses, groups and civic organizations are encouraged to form teams to raise money to support the American Cancer Society and come out to the event.
Another way to show support is by being a volunteer either as part of the committee organizing Relay for Life or by being there on May 19 help with the event.
