NASHVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A proposed bill to allow the sale of wine and liquor on Sundays in Tennessee has advanced another step in the legislature.

It was passed by the State and Local Government Committee Tuesday, March 6, 2018.

Under current law, both grocery stores and liquor stores are not allowed to sell wine and liquor on major holidays and between 11 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Monday.

The bill, which is sponsored by Rep. Gerald McCormick and Sen. Bill Ketron, would allow liquor and wine sales during the same times as beer sales.

The proposal comes almost two years after lawmakers voted to allow the sale of wine in grocery stores.

The bill now moves on to the Senate.
