CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Montgomery County Animal Care and Control (MCAC) has now begun releasing statistics regarding intake, adoption, and euthanasia rates at the shelter.
Director Jeanette Farrell hopes these numbers will help the public understand how many animals MCAC sees in a month’s time, and what is being done to help them.
The following are results for July 2016:
Companion animals brought to shelter: 495 (217 cats and 278 dogs)
Owner surrenders (part of total): 92 (33 cats and 59 dogs)
Animals processed out of the facility: 305
Transferred to rescue organizations: 119 (37 cats and 82 dogs)
Adopted to new homes: 129 (38 cats and 91 dogs)
Reclaimed by owners: 57 (1 cat and 56 dogs)
Euthanized: 237 (172 cats and 65 dogs)
Montgomery County Friends of the Shelter responded positively to the statistics on Facebook:
“We at MCFOTS applaud them for putting the numbers out there for you to see. It’s the end result of a problem that was not created by the shelter, but by the citizens of Montgomery County. And it’s up to us, all of us, to fix the problem.”
