CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A 9-year-old boy who took a car out for a joy ride has been hospitalized after he crashed the car.

Clarksville police said the incident occurred Sunday just after 11:30 a.m. on Eva Dr.

The boy was ejected from the car when it crashed. He was transported by LifeFlight to a hospital in Nashville. He is in stable condition with a few lacerations, broken bones, and other injuries, but is expected to recover.

Police initially reported that the car belonged to the child’s mother, but later determined it belonged to a friend of the mother.

Police said the child has autism.
