NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Children’s Services (DCS) reports that seven students remain at large after a total of 32 escaped from the Woodland Hills Youth Detention Center in Nashville Monday evening.
A news release says around 11 p.m. the juveniles, all between the ages of 14 and 19, left their dorm rooms and escaped through a weak spot in the bottom of a fence in the detention yard. Staffers called Metro police when the students began to leave.
Seven students remain at large as of 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Those who have been found are currently at the Metro Nashville Juvenile Court, where they could face escape charges. The Metro Nashville police assisted in locating the students, as have family members who brought some of the youth back to the facility.
Authorities say to be admitted to the facility, juveniles must have committed at least three felonies. There are usually around 70 teens living at Woodland Hills at any given time.
No staff members were injured and the fence has been repaired. DCS Internal Affairs is investigating the incident.
Anyone who believes they have seen the students, who were wearing navy blue pants, white t-shirts and white or black sneakers, should call 911.
