WHITE HOUSE, Tenn. – A search was underway in White House area, about an hour east of Clarksville, early Thursday morning for the man accused of shooting a Putnam County officer over the weekend.

WKRN News 2 reports that investigators with the U.S. Marshals Service saw a vehicle believed to be associated with Floyd Cook around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday night.

When investigators attempted to approach the vehicle, the driver, identified as Troy Wayne, tried to drive away from them and struck two law enforcement vehicles and nearly hit a Marshals task force officer, who was on foot.

The task force officer fired a shot at the vehicle in self-defense, but no one was hit.

The vehicle contained two people and crashed into a ravine a short time later around three miles away, where the suspects fled on foot.

Multiple law enforcement agencies established a perimeter and began searching for the suspects.

Wayne, 50, was spotted by a witness who reported a suspicious person in her yard near Stovill Drive. Wayne was taken into custody a short time later.

Katy McCarty, 35, was seen by a THP helicopter and was taken into custody. McCarty has active warrants for conspiracy to commit murder in Arizona, according to THP.

McCarty and Wayne were both described by THP as “known associates of Cook’s.” They were both arrested Wednesday on a violation of probation charge out of Kentucky.

The THP believes McCarty and Wayne were in the Cookeville area with Cook when he allegedly shot the Putnam County officer.

The manhunt for Cook is still underway.

“The citizens of this community can rest assured that there law-enforcement officials are doing their job,” Lieutenant Bill Miller with the Tennessee Highway Patrol told News 2.

“He could be in Tennessee he could be in Kentucky we don’t know where he’s at but all avenues are being investigated from all agencies involved in the search.”

The Robertson County schools located in White House will be on a soft lockdown on Thursday. Schools are operating on normal schedule with heightened police presence out of an abundance of caution.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and U.S. Marshals were involved in the search, as well as other agencies.

K-9 units also assisted in the search.

Cook is wanted for attempted murder after he allegedly shot an Algood police officer during a traffic stop Saturday.

He was added to the TBI’s “Most Wanted” list earlier this week.

The 62-year-old man has brown hair and blue eyes. He’s 6 feet tall and weighs about 160 pounds.

Authorities said Cook should not be approached and should be considered armed and dangerous.
