CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) In celebration of their 75th birthday, the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) is honoring the extraordinary soldiers who have led the way for 75 years and will continue to lead in protecting the nation.
With the theme “Legacy of Heroism” and mission “I am A Screaming Eagle”, a series of events are scheduled August 16 through August 26. The events will inspire esprit de corps, pride, patriotism, and enhance the prestige of the history of the 101st.
The 101st was activated August 16, 1942, at Camp Clairborne, Louisiana. The first commander of the 101st, Major General William C. Lee stated, “The 101st has no history, but it has a rendezvous with destiny.”
Screaming Eagle Soldiers are being recognized for their achievements, and past and present sacrifices in serving the nation with honor while wearing the distinguished Eagle “Old Abe” patch.
Several events will be open to Soldiers, families, retirees, veterans, and members of the greater Fort Campbell community.

6:30 a.m. Division Run
10:00 a.m. Champions of Fort Campbell and 75th Birthday Cake Cutting Ceremony at 101st Division Headquarters
1:00 p.m. Noah Calloway Book Signing at the Post Exchange
August 22:
10:00 a.m. 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) 75th Anniversary, NASCAR Xfinity Series Presentation to the 101st Division and 101st Association at Division Headquarters
August 23:
11:00 a.m. 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment Vietnam Veterans Memorial Rededication
August 24:
7 a.m. G.I.Jane day with Tennessee Titans’ Spouses
August 25:
10:00 a.m. Honor Eagle Ceremony and Air Assault Demonstration at the Sabalauski Air Assault School
Noon “Legacy of Heroism” luncheon at Cole Park Cpommons
August 26:
6 p.m. Anniversary Reunion and Memorial Dinner in Nashville
The Division Run on August 16 at 6:30 a.m. will start at the Division Parade Field and run south on Tennessee Avenue from 46th Street to 19th Street rounding Memorial Row and returning north on Kentucky Ave, left after the Currahee memorial and right onto Tennessee Avenue heading back to the division parade field.
Expect road closures along the division run route and cross streets from 6:30 – 8 a.m. Family members are encouraged to join the 101st Airborne Division Band at Memorial Row on 19th Street between Tennessee and Kentucky avenues to cheer and celebrate as the 101st Division Soldiers pass by. Folding chairs are recommended.
Family members may park in the Warrior Transition Battalion parking lot with entry from Air Assault Street and Indiana Avenue. Please use caution when crossing streets and driving in the vicinity. Be prepared to observe standard PT road closures.
